At 2:45am, Company 2 (Llanerch), Company 3 (Brookline), and Rescue 4 (Bon Air) were dispatched to the 100 block of Gilmore Road for a house fire, with reports of a fully involved roof. Llanerch 6 (Asst. Chief J. Roberts) arrived on location and reported "fire showing from the roof", and established Llanerch Command. Engine 21 with Llanerch 7A (Deputy Chief C. Millay) were first on scene and led off with an 1.75" hoseline. Engine 21's crew located the fire in the attic, but advised command that there was no access to the attic from the interior. Llanerch Command ordered Ladder 3 to back up to the house and open up the roof. Due to the balloon-framed construction of the dwelling and with conditions deteriorating, a second 1.75" line and a 2.5" line were placed into service. In addition, Llanerch Command requested Engine 11 and Engine 12 (Oakmont) respond for the RIT and manpower. Two firefighters were transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion and were released a short time later. Llanerch was made available at 7:00am. Pictures courtesy of B. Feeney.
