| Date: |
3/28/06 |
Tonight, EMS crews honed their trauma skills with scenario training. Crews were given three different scenarios including a vehicle accident, assault with an amputation, and a fall with an impalement. Crews went to work as they would in a real emergency. Afterwards, a review was conducted to point out positive performances and to cite areas that need some improvement. |

| MINUTE-MAN PACKS |
| Date: |
3/27/06 |
Over the past couple weeks, members of the LFC have been training with the minute-man packing technique. The minute-man pack allows for a quicker, more efficient deployment of our 1 3/4" crosslays. Training took place the last couple of drill nights as well as a Saturday drill. The minute-man pack will be used on both Telesqurt 34 and Tower 34. Special thanks to Joe "Ozzie" Myers from the District of Columbia Fire Department (DCFD) for helping out with the training. |

| STREET EATS CAR |
| Date: |
3/7/06 |
At approx. 03:00 hrs. this morning, Sta. 34, Engine 35 (Brookline), and Rescue 58 (Bon Air) were dispatched to the unit block of Langhorne Ave. for an odor of gas inside a dwelling. Telesqurt 34 arrived on location to find a water main break at the corner of Darby Rd. and Langhorne Ave.. A water main had broken and flowed a large quantity of water down the street and into the basement of a dwelling. Fire crews secured utilities and checked the home for natural gas using the multigas meter. PECO and Aqua Pennsylvania were notified. While on location, a large crack was noticed in the street and a small sink hole began to form. Within minutes, the sink hole opened up and a Volkswagon slowly sank into the abyss. A tow truck removed the vehicle and fire crews pumped a large portion of the water from the homeowner's basement while the water company repaired the break. Station 34 went available at approx. 06:00 hrs. |

Engine 34 and Telesqurt 34 responded to a car fire at the corner of Darby and Valley Roads. Crews arrived on location to find a newer model BMW with an engine compartment consumed in flames. Crews shut down the roadway for personnel safety and made a quick knock on the fire. When the hood release cable snapped, the crew was able to make use of our new Hurst Maverick tool to pop the hood, disconnect the battery, and wet down the hot spots. |
